Greetings and welcome to my blog!
I'm Sam, a twenty-something writer, reader, and explorer with an insatiable thirst for knowledge. That sounds cheesy, I know, but it's true. I love to learn, which is why I spend a ton of time lost in stories.
By day, I work in the subsidiary rights department of Penguin Young Readers, where I help to get books published around the world. Prior to joining the team, I interned with the wonderful literary scouts at Maria B. Campbell Associates. I have also interned with a boutique literary agency, worked as a Barnes & Noble bookseller, tutored writing and oral communication, and taught English abroad. Summed up, all my experiences have had to do with the dissemination of language, something about which I care deeply. Not only does language become a form of entertainment, but it is our chief method of sharing ideas and relating to others. I dream of becoming a polyglot, so you'll often find me practicing Portuguese verbs, drilling Turkish vocabulary, and belting out Spanish ballads.
Because I love to learn about other cultures, I'm drawn to books with unique and colorful settings. While I love working in New York City, I want to be taken around the world (or into other worlds) when I open a book. My all-time favorite books are Treasure Island, Chronicle of a Death Foretold, and The Sun Also Rises. As far as non-classic preferences go, I adore the works of Kenneth Oppel, Stephanie Thornton, Naomi Novik, and Alice Hoffman.
My favorite color is purple. If I were an animal, I would want to be a duck. Each day, I consume an inordinate amount of peanut butter. My cat's name is Mad-Eye Smokey Moody Puff. Coke > Pepsi.
